The Park at Wolf Branch Oaks, Mt. Dora, FL

After co-presenting a workshop on creative design techniques with Andres Duany for the Lake County Planning Department, a landowner in the audience approached me and asked that I look at an 80-acre parcel he had bought for investment purposes some years ago, several miles from town. Viewing the aerial photo he had brought along, it was obvious that the majority of mature live oak trees were concentrated in the center of the parcel, which led to the early designation of a 13-acre central woodland park. Another notable design feature is the 300-foot deep “foreground meadow”, separating Wolf Branch Road from the homes, which deliberately face forward toward the road across that protected open space, to provide backyard privacy and avoid degrading the public viewshed.
