Over the years I have designed several neighborhoods for the North Oaks Company, whose formerly-gated development community is located just north of St. Paul. The relationship began when the company president saw a notice in the newspaper, publicizing a presentation I had been asked to do in nearby Stillwater, by the Washington County Planning Department. The timing was excellent, as was the compatibility of our mutual goals of combining quality residential development with the preservation of value-adding natural features and protected views. At the heart of the property is a large contiguous hardwood forest dotted with wetlands, a tree nursery, and a working farm supporting a deer herd bred for both venison and antlers, operated by company officers Doug and Mari Harpur, who maintain a residence there.
